So these next few days feel like vacation days because Jim is with us! YAY!
Day 9 (Sept 5): Staten Island Ferry and Coney Island!
We got up early and headed out to where you board the Staten Island Ferry! Its a 25-minute ride each way and it gives you the most beautiful views of Manhattan and you get a great view of the Statue of Liberty. Edison loved the ride, mostly because he was having fun pointing out all the boats, planes and buildings.
Coney Island was cool-- loud, by the water, old-timey, dingy... First stop was the world famous Nathan's Hot Dog Stand! The boys were very excited about this and I wanted to hold off for ice cream! We walked around the amusement park area, rode Spook-A-Rama and Jim arm wrestled a machine. AND WON!
...after Jim did the machine and says how easy it is, another person (much buffer than Jim) tried and lost on the same strength setting! YAY JIM!
We got ice cream and walked around a little more and stumbled upon the Coney Island Circus Sideshow that we wanted to see. I was really excited to go, but was feeling a little guilty that Edison's sweet little eyes were gonna see freak show acts like a woman swallowing a sword, a man walking on glass and other freaky things. But it was fine, he wasn't scared or "freaked" at all. PHEW! We had a drink after that at the Freak Show Bar and decided that we needed to get back to Manhattan as it was getting late. We didn't walk the boardwalk, which I regret but next time.
Oh yeah, we saw the world's largest xylophone-
Day 10 (Sept 6): Central Park!
We spent the first half of the day at the park. It was so beautiful. We played at the Alice in Wonderland toddler park and saw all the statues inspired by the story. We also hung out at the little pond and saw a turtle swimming in the water. We almost made it to the carousel, but it was nearing naptime and it was still a longish walk away from where we were. 
After naptime we went back to Washington Square Park and got into the fountain! Then went nearby to Peanut Butter and Company a shop that serves only peanut butter-concocted sandwiches. I thought it might be fun for us to go to a restaurant that was kid-friendly and I knew Edison would love. Edison had the Elvis, Jim had Peanut Butter BLT and I had the Dark Chocolate Dreams which is basically a peanut butter and black forest cake sandwich explosion! YUM! You get carrot sticks and chips with your meal!

Day 11 (Sept 7): Today we stayed close to "home" and tried to eat at as many food places as possible. I think we did some shopping today too. We started the day off with breakfast at this great diner called La Bonbonniere, then went to play at the park nearby.
For lunch, I was really craving plantains so we found this delicious Mexican place called La Palapa Rockola. We also went back to Yogurtland a certain frozen yogurt shop which has self-serve "froyo" and toppings. Jim was excited about the toppings. We ate so much at those two places that we were too full to eat anywhere else. We did the park thing again this time letting Edison get into the fountain at Washington Square Park! That night we packed and relaxed.

Its Jim's birthday today and to celebrate we're heading back to Denver. But not before we get some delicious eats at vegetarian-friendly coffeeshop S'Nice and play at the park one more time. Kind of a hectic morning getting the laundry done so my friend could come home to fresh sheets, but we managed to get it, plus packing done with enough time to enjoy the City for a few more hours.
Edison did as good as expected on the plane. He got a little shut-eye before we took off. We had a layover in Minneapolis/St. Paul for a few hours which was okay. Edison ran around and I followed him around A LOT! Well Jim and I took turns following him around while the other ate a little and had some down time.
Once we got on the plane it took Edison a bit to get to sleep but after a few whines and rounds of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" Edison fell asleep. Once in Denver he was up and kept saying "HOME" as we were driving.
NYC was a great trip, but as Edison says it is great to be "HOME!" And as you can see we started living happily ever after in our own backyard again playing in the dirt and getting soaked with the hose!
