Audrey's First Food AKA The Lovin' Spoonful

Audrey had her first taste of food this weekend. She had some multi-grain cereal mixed with breast milk. The whole event went great.

We got a bib on her, she sat on Jim's lap and took the cereal like a champ! She understood the spoon's purpose right away and patiently ate. She seems to like it.

And so it begins, Audrey and the lovin' spoonful of cereal!-
After a few bites, she started to get the hang of it!-
Edison even helped out!-
Just finishing off the leftovers!-First Food FTW!-
Oh and here's a shot from night two- still liking this cereal!-
We will feed her cereal for week or so then begin to introduce fruits and vegetables into her diet. Right now she just eats 1-2 tsp of cereal. Her stomach is so tiny and its estimated it can only hold 6 ounces. By six months she will be eating twice a day.

I intend to make Audrey's baby food like I did with Edison. In fact, I had a free hour this afternoon to prepare some yams! They were on sale at the store this week for $0.44/lb and so I got two pounds which yields just over 40 meals for Audrey. $0.88 for two pounds of yams is like the cost of one jar of baby food and it took me about an hour to prepare. All you have to do is peel, wash, cut, steam, puree your food and then put the puree into ice cube trays, cover and freeze and you have baby food that will stay fresh and be nutritious for your baby and at such a bargain price! Less than a dollar for 40 meals!

We are all excited for Audrey and this big milestone!
